Did you know walking on the beach burns more calories than a hard surface like pavement? If you're walking on loose sand it requires your muscles to pick your feet up and pull through the sand. This same mentality goes for if you're hiking somewhere that is especially muddy terrain. My husband and I make it a point to wake up every morning before it gets too hot, and walk on the beach. This is one of my favorite times of the day. We've brought our running stroller which handles better on gravel or areas that are not a packed down surface. Our son loves to go on walks so this makes it an enjoyable workout. By the time my husband and I are done talking I barely even notice I've worked out and I always am dripping with sweat which tells me I kept up the intensity.
